Use this tool for legitimate civic engagement. Don't abuse it. We provide information and tools — you're responsible for how you use them.

Agreement to Terms

By using FederalLimits.org, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site.

What We Provide

FederalLimits.org offers:

Representative Lookup — Identify your elected officials at federal, state, and local levels
Message Generator — Create messages with specific policy asks for each representative
State Benchmark — View how states compare on due-process safeguards
Educational Content — Blog posts and resources about constitutional limits

We provide information and tools. We don't send messages on your behalf, represent you legally, or guarantee any outcomes from your civic participation.

Acceptable Use

You May

Look up your representatives
Generate messages for civic engagement
Learn about safeguards
Share the tool with others

You May Not

Send spam, threats, or harassment
Generate illegal content
Misrepresent yourself
Hack or disrupt the service
Scrape for commercial use

We reserve the right to block access for anyone who violates these terms.

Accuracy of Information

We work hard to keep our data accurate:

Representative data comes from official government sources via Geocodio
State benchmark data is researched from primary sources (statutes, executive orders, official policies)
Educational content cites sources and legal precedents

However, we can't guarantee 100% accuracy. Laws change. Districts get redrawn. Officials leave office. If you find an error, let us know and we'll fix it.

This is not legal advice. We provide general information about constitutional law and state policy. For specific legal questions, consult an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction.

Your Responsibilities

When you use the message generator, you are responsible for:

The content you ultimately send (you can edit our suggestions)
Ensuring your communications comply with applicable laws
Maintaining respectful discourse with elected officials

The messages you send go directly from you to your representatives. We don't see them, approve them, or take responsibility for them.

Intellectual Property

Our Content: The text, design, code, and data compilations on this site are owned by FederalLimits.org or used under license. You may share and link to our content for non-commercial purposes with attribution.

Generated Messages: Messages generated by our tool are yours to use however you want. No attribution required.

User Contributions: If you submit content (comments, feedback, suggestions), you grant us permission to use it to improve the service.

Donations

Donations are voluntary contributions to support the project. They are:

Non-refundable (except as required by law)
Not tax-deductible (we're incorporating as a 501(c)(4) organization)
Used at our discretion to further the project's mission
Tracked in our public ledger for transparency

Donation tiers include benefits (stickers, shirts, etc.) which we'll make reasonable efforts to fulfill. Benefits are secondary to the charitable purpose of supporting civic infrastructure.

Disclaimer of Warranties

FederalLimits.org is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee:

Uninterrupted access to the service
Accuracy of all information
That your messages will be received or read
Any particular outcome from civic engagement

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FederalLimits.org and its operators are not liable for:

Damages arising from your use of the service
Actions taken by representatives in response to (or ignoring) your messages
Errors in representative data or contact information
Third-party actions, including payment processors or email services

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be announced on the site.

Termination

We may terminate or suspend access for anyone who violates these terms, at our sole discretion, without notice.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New Mexico.
