What We Collect

When You Use the Rep Lookup Tool

ZIP Code: Used to identify your representatives. Not stored after your session ends.

Street Address (if needed): Some ZIP codes span multiple districts. If we need your address to identify your exact representatives, it's used only for that real-time lookup. We do not store your address.

Representative Data: Fetched from our API in real time. We don't log which representatives you looked up.

When You Subscribe to the Newsletter

Email Address: Stored separately from the main tool. Used only for project updates. You can unsubscribe anytime.

When You Donate

Payment Information: Processed by our payment provider (Stripe via Open Collective). We don't see or store your credit card number. Donation records are kept for tax and transparency purposes.

Name (optional): If you opt into our supporters page, your name may be displayed. Otherwise, donations can be anonymous.

Automatically Collected

Basic Analytics: We use Google Analytics with your IP address anonymized to understand aggregate usage patterns — how many people use the tool, which states are most active. We don't run ads, we don't sell or share this data, and we don't track you across other sites.

Server Logs: Standard server logs may temporarily record IP addresses for security purposes. These are automatically deleted within 30 days.

How We Use Your Information

Who We Share Data With

Almost no one.

• Payment Processor: Stripe (via Open Collective) processes donations. They have their own privacy policy.
• Email Service: MailerLite handles newsletter delivery. They have their own privacy policy.
• Google (analytics & fonts): We use Google Analytics with IP anonymization on, no advertising signals, and no cross-site ad tracking (Google Signals is off) for aggregate usage, and Google Fonts to serve our typefaces. Loading any page sends your IP address to Google as part of that request; we never send Google the personal data you enter (address, email, message text), and we never sell your data.
• No one else. We don't sell data. We don't share the information you give us with advertisers, data brokers, government agencies, or anyone else.

Data Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. We don't store sensitive personal information, which is the best protection — you can't breach what doesn't exist.

Your Rights

Access: You can ask what data we have about you. (Probably nothing unless you subscribed to the newsletter.)

Deletion: You can ask us to delete any data we have. Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe anytime.

Portability: You can request a copy of any data we have about you.

Opt-Out: You can use the tool without providing any personal information beyond a ZIP code.

Children's Privacy

The tool is designed for adults engaging in civic participation. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

California Residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• We don't sell your personal information
• We don't share your personal information for targeted advertising
• You have the right to know what data we collect (see above — it's minimal)
• You have the right to delete your data
• You won't be discriminated against for exercising your rights

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the updated version here with a new effective date. Material changes will be announced via newsletter (if you're subscribed).
